Church Planting

Due to the challenge of COVID 19, the church in Takeo was closed but when it reopened our team went to see the church. When we went to the church we did not expect too many people to be ready for the service but in fact when we arrived there were many families, children and youth waiting for us and eager to hear the Word.

There is a small parcel of land that we are now using for the church (previously the church as meeting at the Teacher’s house) and this is slowly being set up so it can be used for services and meetings.  For the moment, we have a small tent (like a marque) that is being used for us to meet under.

I also was able to take some clothes and other things to the church so they could be distributed to the children there.

Church ministry in Phnom Penh

I am still a cell leader at my church so each Sunday. I am responsible for leading worship sessions with a small team using Zoom. We have these worship sessions prior to our pastor holding his Facebook Live meeting. Once the lockdown has been lifted I will be able to return to regular church worship with the other members of the church.

EEC Cambodia

Besides being the coordinator for EEC (Singapore) here in Cambodia, you now have responsibility to be a Teacher’s Assistant (TA) for the weekly online Zoom training sessions that EEC has with the students in Cambodia.  This TA work includes doing attendance, setting up breakout rooms, and other Zoom activities to help the teacher and the students.

There are a lot of challenges for students to finish their course because of the COVID situation which has put a lot of pressure with time and organization for students and teachers. There are also challenges that the students face at home with family and other time commitments that make it difficult for students to do assignments and to have the time available for their weekly online classrooms.  Pray for the students that they will be able to manage their time better to meet the requirements of the course.

Challenges

Training session in Siem Reap in April is cancelled due to COVID-19 Pandemic

PRAYER REQUESTS:
EEC:
  • Students can manage their time well to complete their assignments and participate in the online training.
  • Students are safe and healthy during this time of the COVID pandemic.

CHURCH PLANTING:
  • • That the Lord open the door for us again to come to Takao to lead church village to worship and teaching them with the Word of God again.
  • • Pray for the church planting team with good health, emotion and spirit.
  • • Pray that I will be able to complete my various work assignments on time and with good quality and accuracy.

On a personal note, pray for daily health and protection as I travel back and forth to work and as I participate in various events and activities.

Thanksgiving

In March I moved to a new house and this is a great blessing.  The room that I moved from was one I had lived at for over 12 years so it is a big change to be in a new place.

There is lots of adjusting because it is a lot further away from where I work and there are not so many conveniences near this house like I had at my previous place.  When I moved into the house I invited my Pastor and his wife and a few other of my Christian brothers and sisters to come to the house so we could pray for God’s blessings on the house and His protection.

This house is dedicated to the Lord and this is why it was important to have others join me in praying God’s blessing and protection on the house.

Quarterly Report - January to March 2020

Picture
Church Ministry in Takeo:
Our church mission in Takeo has finished three sessions of water baptism for new believers. We trained one of our local leaders there to be the leader in the house church that we planted. The number of children has increased each time we met and we are now averaging 50-80 children.

Recently, we moved from the house of the host to another house.  This new host is a teacher. Beside his school teaching, Mr. Nath is willing to help children with their informal learning environment. We as the church planters team support him with some learning material supplies so he could help the children with access to the learning materials  such as books, pencils and white board with some other needs. All offerings and support are supported by our mother church which is the Good News of Jesus Church in Phnom Penh.

Church Ministry in Phnom Penh:
Back at my home church (Good News of Jesus) - all church activities are banned by the government in Phnom Penh due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, we have "virtual" cell group gatherings for each Sunday Service. I have been assigned to lead, guide and monitor three youths with the word of God and prayer every Wednesday. On Sunday's, I take the role  as a leader to share God’s message, through a virtual meeting using Facebook Messenger, with a small group from the church. Thanks God for His blessings upon our church leaders to provide us each topic for each Sunday.

East Extension Center Cambodia (EEC):
EEC staff (from Singapore) came to Cambodia and met with teachers/leaders and supervisors and we shared a meal and fellowship and they offered selected students with the officially scholarship program from East Asia after they had successfully completed one year in the "visiting students phase".

We had two school orientations — one in Battambang and another one in Phnom Penh. There were 11 students who have received East Orientation for MA program in leadership.

Challenges:
We are facing the COVID-19 that has stopped EEC from having a quarterly class gathering this year that was scheduled last year. We tried to have a class via Zoom but were unable to have on online class because teachers and students time was limited from field ministry and mission organization trips and social distancing.

Would really appreciate your prayer in this that we could find another solution so we can continue with the EEC training.

Prayer Request and next plan for April to June 2020
  • Our prayer continues for the Church in Takeo that we will be able to come back and meet them once the COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted by the government and it is safe to travel and meet again..
  • Please pray that, if possible, the EEC class will be able to have Zoom meetings for our next class.
  • God’s Protection for all church members and leaders and family members from the COVID-19 virus pandemic.
  • Wisdom and strength from God to serve Him this year 2020.
  • God provides all my needs to serve Him in 2020.
  • Good health to serve God with new work environment adjustment at Words of Life Ministries Organization.
  • Please pray for our EEC, as we are gathering for weekly updates (Saturday) with prayer request from each other via Zoom. It will start this Saturday (17 April) onward.

Thanksgiving:
Praise the Lord for His awesome provision and giving me a new job at  “Words of Life Ministries”.  It is especially amazing to be able to have a job when so many people have been impacted due to the COVID-19 lock-down that is happening across the city and our country.

My mid-2019 reflection and testimony

Reflection

After nine years with AOG (Assemblies of God) and nine years of service with World Vision International Cambodia, over the last few years I was able to spend a few months with Khmer churches in America and was involved with church work, worship ministry and evangelism. It was a time to acquaint myself with different churches and people from different international cultures. It was an added benefit to visit Khmer people, who were living overseas, and hearing their testimonies on how God loves and cares for them and at the same time, it was also a time to hear their sad stories and experiences back to the year 1975-1979 during the great hardships and war in Cambodia. Many told how they were still struggling in emotion and depression from the war. Did you know that there are over 330,259 people from Cambodian-Cham, Vietnam, and Chinese who were born and live in America in different states.  Some of them dare not come back to visit Cambodia due to deep depression and sadness in their mind and heart during the war. They need prayer and healing.

Time of Interaction

During my time in America, there were opportunities for me to speak with different groups and Khmer people and in a few churches I visited, I did evangelism, served in worship ministry with few churches, prayers support and attending Wednesday Prayer and Bible study Group meetings which opened doors so I could meet one-to-one and to provide prayer support.  During the five months in America, it was encouraging to hear how God called individuals and groups to worship Him and to hear their amazing testimonies and faith.  There were so many great stories to hear and much to praise God about.

God of the Season

After I got back from my trip to the USA, it was a step of living by faith of my involvement with different ministries focuses.

Haggai: Back to the year 2010, I was called to joined Haggai international leadership seminar in Maui, Hawaii USA.

Haggai International Cambodia: I joined in the role as Vice-President, board member and Haggai faculty.  Haggai's goal is to equip and inspire strategically positioned leaders to be more effective so they can demonstrate and present the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to reach out to people at the marketplace to bring an end to gospel poverty.

July 23-27, 2019 was the first national leadership seminar for Haggai in Cambodia. At this seminar 22 leaders, from churches and various organizations, were trained and graduated. I delivered my teaching on “Self Discipline for Evangelism” course with other members of the Haggai national faculty. PRAISE HIM!

Kairos: Its aim is to mobilize Christians and attempts to lay a foundation in the life of Christian and the local churches for active and strategic involvement in world evangelization.  I will be joining, along with other group facilitators, so we can facilitate the Kairos course that is scheduled to be held on the 2nd to the 6th of September, 2019.

On Reflection

On reflection of my journey with the Lord, a verse entered my mind immediately, while I was praying: "Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” (Colossians 3:2).

God reminded me through this text of a richer position and of my spiritual position. “I am raised with Christ, my life is hidden with Christ in God.”  My life is secured. It will not spin nor change. Christ is seated at the right hand of God and in that position our Lord reigns with authority. I found myself that I am living in God’s hands right now and in the future as well.

Prayer Requests

Please pray for me that God will provide all my needs while I carry out these ministries and my involvement to reach out to my fellow Cambodians, to discern God’s will and call, time and ways they can be involved, as they answer His call to witness to our own Khmer community and to different groups in our community as well.
